My dog is not "green".

I don't know what to think of this...I planted a very small Red Maple tree in the backyard...it made me happy to see it's colors and i felt good planting something that would end up being a tall tree since the house owners have not planted trees in the back and it is much needed....
Just to find Teddy playing with it...I feel sabotaged. I feel like whatever i do there is someone to destroy what i am working for...We may all feel that way at some point...And maybe this picture should have been silent with the title :
"I just planted a tree, it is Teddy's new toy. He is the only one happy about it"
LOL

I've lost many a plant to my dogs--my theory is that the soil smells different and they investigate the "intruder".

I think you're great for improving your little (rented) corner of the planet, btw. Soak those roots in a bucket, replant it with heavy rocks on top so he can't get it again. Or add some chile pepper seeds to the top to deter him. It's worth a try! Bonne chance.

Silly dog! I hope you can save it. I like the idea of the chili pepper.

I love your new header. You cannot take a bad picture, Frenchy!

Yes those golden retrievers think everything is fair game. I noticed that if my golden retriever saw me planting something he promptly pulled it up, but if I put him inside where he couldn't see me planting, he ignored it! They are just so curious!

Your post and all the comments crack me up. :-) I agree with Meadowsweet Cottage. I'd also put a two-foot high fence around the tree and buy Teddy a new chew toy, especially the kind you can bury a treat inside, making him work to get it. Retrievers have tons of energy and can get bored easily. I bet he'd retrieve a Frisbee over and over again - for hours. :-)

Hope your little tree survives.

I have two Bassets and they would have done the same thing! At any given time they are crushing my flowers, stealing pieces of a project or "helping" me with a photo shoot by snatching something I sat down for a moment. Everything is a game! Maybe a little tomato fence around it for a bit? good luck!
