Blogspot is not free!

Just got a surprise today! Blogspot is not Free after all!
Blogspot uses picasa to stock pictures...So you are using their web album....Then at some point you run out of space and.... they want money to by more space....it is ok with me because my blog is like my family album souvenir....But WOW...That was a surprise! I guess nothing is free in this world...Even when they tell you it is...Did you know that ?

I just learned that too on Saturday. I had to buy more space but like you I thought it was okay because I chronicle pretty much everything on here!

Wow! I didn't know that!

Had heard this happen to one other blogging buddy and within the month it happened to me.

Paid my $5 and am up and running again with pictures.

Do you suppose this is a gimmick they have come up with to get $5 from all that use their service?

Sure seems awkward that so many have used up their space at about the same time!

Hum.
Take care and God bless,
d from homehaven

wow i didn't know that. You're the first person I've heard that from. good to know though.

Unknown said...

I hadn't heard that but $5 seems like a realtively reasonable rate if you store all your "stuff" on blogspot. Thanks for sharing...good to know!

Marsha @ Tattered Chick said...

Yes, I had heard of this. It's like any of them, picturetrail, photobucket, flickr, etc . . . you can store up to a certain number of photos and/or videos and then you either have to delete them to make room or purchase more bandwidth.

They have to make their money some way too . . .

That clears up some of the emails that I have been reading about bloggers having posted too many photos. I recently couldn't post pictures and now have gone through Picaso........so I will be in this boat soon.
Thanks for the information.

I guess I don't use a host often enough to even know. I only have a couple of things and the rest I download directly from my computer.

yes, sadly i discovered that a little over a year ago. i blog SO Much that i've had to upgrade TWICE now!!!!! (i'm pathetic!)but its totally worth it to me!

I didn't have any idea either until last year when all my photos wouldn't load anymore. Then I was told. Oops!! Had NO idea! But now I pay them. It's pretty cheap knowing that my pictures are being stored in another place. IT's a peace of mind.

I did know that. Did you know you can use a free photobucket acct. to host your photos and then post them in your blog posts?

Unknown said...

I didn't know that! On my recent blog posts, it will only let me download one picture....hmmmmmnnnnn.

As usual, enjoying all of your posts and fun family updates!

Scented Leaf said...

I did know this, but I did not know how much cost! Thanks for sharing.

Unknown said...

It also take 24 hours to be able to download pictures after you pay for storage. Just wonderful if you have a big event that day! LOL
You can also go and erase few pictures you don't need to be able to download few pictures you need desperately.

Thanks for sharing!! Glad to hear it's not too expensive.

I did not know that. I don't use blogspot, but I have a lot of friends who do!

I didn't know either. Maybe that is why I haven't been able to upload pictures today.

Unknown said...

well that stinks :/

Susan Anderson said...

My DIL paid for the extra space and then still couldn't upload photos. They told her there was a limit to the number of photos you could have and that the upgrade was just for text.

Reading this, it sounds like she got some bad advice. Could somebody please write me and clear this up? She would love to be able to go back and resume posting photos on her old blog. She actually had to start a new one!

I didn't know that. thanks for the heads up . I don't think I use picasa for my pics . I usually upload them to imageshack or straight from the url itself .

I did know that. I finally figured it was part of Google's plan to take over the world! They are "The Brain" and we are all unwittingly "Pinkies."

Pondside said...

Well that explains why I can't upload from my computer anymore - what a bother!

lissa said...

I actually knew about picasa though I never filled up images enough to have to buy more space. I think for people who actually wanted to keep their photos online wouldn't might paying for more space.

besides blogger keeps adding new features, so I don't might about picasa. plus I think all those photo sites such as flickr and photobucket does the same thing. you do have to pay for space after a certain amount is used.

I had no idea! Thanks for the fair warning!

No, I didn't know that! Yikes!

I know of a blogger friend that has moved to WordPress because she was having picture issues with Blogger. I didn't hear they were charging $5.00 until now. Do you think they will still charge if you remove older posts and free up space? ~Ames

Jenny said...

I didn't know that at all.

I'm moving off Blogspot onto my private website early next year but that does make sense. They do give us a lot of value for nothing, I think!

Thanks for sharing this with us...and thanks for sharing that absolutely lovely autumn picture.

This was a great stop on our little journey through Alphabe-Thursday!

Thank you for linking.

A+

I didn't know about the $5 thing, but I pay to host my photos on Flickr anyhow so I haven't run into that problem! Good to know.

I believe it tells you when you sign up if you go over a certain amount of space then it is not free. I can understand this. Space is a commodity plus they back it up daily which keeps you from losing any of your photos and data. If your computer bites the dust, your blog is still there, along with your photographs.
