Butterfly glow in the dark jar craft

This cute glow in the dark butterfly jar is very easy and cheap. My 5 year old was not so much interested in Fireflies. She wanted a butterfly.

You will need
A Mason Jar,
A butterfly ( Dollar store),
Net ribbon,
1 stick,
Moss,
A white river rock,
Felt flower (Hobby Lobby)
Hot glue gun,
Glow in the dark paint,

Have your child paint the butterfly and rock with the glow in the dark paint. Let dry.

Hot glue your moss on the bottom of the jar, the stick and the rock.

Then the butterfly.

Cover the lid with the ribbon and glue a felt flower.

My girl loves it. She charges the butterfly and keeps it on her side table by her bed.

My wife and I tried the same thing, but after a while mold/mildew started to grow within the jar.

How do you prevent this from happening?

Hi Steve,
Sorry it took so long to answer. Here is my ideas about the mold:
Use store bought sand and moss. Make sure the stick is dry.
I live in Utah where it is very dry and we don't deal with mildew. If you live in Seattle ...Or the south it will be a little more tricky. You can also glue one of those little sachets that holds up moisture or glue a folded paper towel underneath the lid. Hope this help. These jars are so fun to make!
