Tutorial on back splash center piece

When i could not find a Toile center piece for my kitchen, I decided to make my own. I got the white tile at Home Depot.

I put the tiles down on my table to made a pretty frame. Then I washed and let dry the tile.

I used decal paper and copied a Toile motif i liked.

I used a surface conditioner for ceramics. When dry, I transfered the Toile design with a pencil.
Then it was time to paint. I used black and brown paint for ceramic. With a thin brush, i painted everything changing the drawing to my liking. I let dry for 10 days. Always follow in the instruction on bottle.
This is waterproof and SO amazing....I had the Tile guy, cut the edges for the frame and install it ...that was it!!!

Party at Today's creative blog. Here.

  14. Thank you to all. What inspired me. I just looked at kitchen in magazines and the white cabinets were very appealing to me and matched the rest of the house i was putting together. Then i just stayed in the color choice of white, brown, black (toile inspired).

  15. What was the most difficult part in deciding how to accomplish your dream kitchen? Were you on a tight budget at any point? .. (my husband hates it when I spend too much money)

  16. A kitchen remodeling takes a long time to accomplish if you want a good deal. I would start 6 months early. Getting 3 estimates for the cabinetry. 3 for the counter tops.
Going to the tile shop for seasonal clearances.(i got my floor on discontinued clearance for 3$ a square foot, the price of cheap ceramics). For me it is very easy to design and put together. I can see everything together in my mind.
The hard part is the construction. It can take up to 6 months for a remodeling. We were building houses with a builder and were doing fine until we build this house. We ran out of money at the bank at the painting job???
The builder dropped us. We had to finish the house by ourselves and it cost 40% extra.
The kitchen is not where you want to be too cheap... the 3 places that sell a house are the kitchen and the master bedroom and bath.though you can cut corners... instead of full granite slabs, get the encasing one.
    Hope this helps.

  19. LOVE details like that. I tile myself so I know what it takes to do it right. The center design is the icing on the cake. :)
