Tweed Fashion trend for this Fall

Hello, Château readers! Rue here again, for your monthly fashion report. As you can see, I'm still loving the white after labor day trend, but the cool, brisk air of fall is upon us. The light has taken on that lovely golden hue, the leaves are starting to dress up in their rich colors, and that earthy smell is filling the air. So, to properly herald in my absolute favorite season of the year, I thought we'd go for a full-on autumn trend this month: tweed.

Tweed is popping up in the most unique places this fall, such as on shoes and purses, paired with leather, and, of course, on the traditional jackets, pants, and dresses. A good, solid tweed can be expensive, but since it's a timeless autumn favorite, you can usually get lucky when searching for tweed in a thrift shop.

Below, I'll show you how I've taken two tweed items, both thrifted, to create dressy and casual outfits for fall.

1. The tweed skirt, thrifted Ann Taylor. Similar but pricey here, different color but better price here, and great price here.

For a dressier outfit, I paired my skirt with a blouse, buttoned all the way up, and a statement necklace and shoes in cornflower blue. I love how the blue pops with the brown backdrop for this classic fall outfit.

Blouse: Maurices / Shoes: J Crew via DownEast / Necklace: Bluefly clearance / Purse: Gap (old)

To make this outfit more casual, I untucked the blouse and unbuttoned the neck, threw on a fun animal print sweater {another trend this fall!}, and toughened the look up a bit with black booties and a beaded bracelet.

Sweater: H&M / Booties: Blowfish / Bracelet: Gabes

2. The tweed blazer, thrifted Ralph Lauren. Similar but pricey here, different color but great price with lovely contrast trim here. For a comprehensive list of various tweed and bouclé blazers, check out this slideshow by Elle.

For my dressy outfit, I popped this blazer on top of a summery floral dress, belted it to give some shape, and put on my trusty boots. Tweed blazers are great toppers to extend use of your summer dresses into fall. I chose this specific dress, seen here in the summer, so that I could also work in the fall trend of oxblood and burgundy colors.

Dress: B. Moss clearance / Belt: Ruche / Boots: Born, mall clearance / Bag: Kenneth Cole Reaction via Ross

For a more casual look, I layered a chambray top and cozy sweater under my blazer then paired it with wide-leg jeans and a chunky but neutral necklace. You get bonus points if your wide-legs are also high-waisted, another fun trend this fall {as evidenced by Sydney of The Daybook, here.}

Chambray, Sweater: Gap clearance (old) / Jeans: Express sale / Necklace: J Crew final sale

So, what do you think? How are you planning to wear tweed this fall? Let us know in the comments! I personally hope to be able to score one of those cute jackets with leather sleeves or piping, or maybe a fun pair of shoes or a bag in tweed.

P.S. If you're looking to get into this trend via thrifting, and not having any luck at the thrift shop, search for tweed on eBay. Chock full, I tell you!

Blog your heart

Joining Stephanie Howell for Blog your heart.

  1. I am so exited about this election. I am French but was Naturalized American last year. I am voting for Romey.
  2. I love being a Mom, today Soleil was so happy and we were playing the hulk mean pose back and forth. She is growing so fast. She wants to walk and won't bother crawling.
  3. Having this 4th baby is a sacrifice but i would rather have her and my family than being a big Fashion icon or superstar.
  4. A lot of times, i feel like a looser. I am late, forget appointments, my kids drive me nuts but i am not perfect and no one is.
  5. I love Halloween, i love it, i love it!
  6. Mimi and i made a French pie tonight. She made a small pie with the scrap dough just like i used to do when i was a child. I taught her how to cut and peel apples.
  7. I hate renting, i don't like the feeling of being in limbo. I complain less and less about this house but really i would be happy if it was mine. All i ever wanted was to have a humble house.
  8. I love my friends.
  9. It's very hard to have my family in France. I miss my Mom

Delicious, addictive Mexican corn recipe

Just in case you missed it last week. I have been craving and making this recipe. A must have in your side dish to plan!

Mexican corn recipe

Corn on the cob,
Mayonnaise,
Grated Cheese of choice...Mozzarella (Italian version), Gruyere (French version), Cheddar (American version), Asiago (Mexican).

First, make your kids peel the corn. LOL

Boil for 15 minutes or when the grains are tender when pocked with a fork.

Spread Mayo on the hot corn with a knife. Then sprinkle with grated cheese, it will melt...Yummy and super addictive i warn you!
I like the Pepper and olive oil Mayo too when i want it a little bit hot.

Have you checked Bonbon pic yet and the new filter?
Lots of cute filters for your phone pics and also a filter named "Make me skinny". It makes you look 10 and more pounds thinner! Photographer use it all the time and you can use it on your phone!
It's FREE!

Gorgeous Owl wreath DIY for Fall, easy!

This is my own idea. Owl wreath for Fall.
I got this cute owl plaque at the store (find it at Walmart or Michael's). I am kind of obsessed with owls...I put this plaque on my door and it is banging the door when you open it and boring...So i thought to make it into a wreath.

Cute owl plaque, made of wood.

Simple wreath, with tiny pumpkins.

Choose your ribbon to match. Fold it to make 2 small and 2 big loops. Secure with a simple trash bag tie.

The owl goes in the middle of wreath. Secure with ties.
Place the bow on the side.
Cute, easy, cheap.

Great for my front door or anywhere in the house.
Happy Fall!

After school French snack or Nutella tartine

Nutella tartine is an open face sandwich. Very favorite in France.

This is a pretty tour d'Eiffel plate. I got it a long time ago.

I got the glasses because they have the shape of the Bonne Maman preserve's jar. Apricot there. Yum!
Do you have a favorite after school snack?

Zacky is an Havanese dog

We got Zacky at the pound few years ago and i thought he was a Maltese mix. Well he is not!
Yesterday i was paying a visit to a friend and i could not believe it! She had my dog. It was another Zacky! She had another one in black and white and they totally acted like my boy! He is a Havanese Dog known in France as a Bichon Havanais.
I am so glad i know now because i love the little guy so much i would get another one like him if he was gone. Here are so pictures of him with long and short hair.

To tell you a little bit about his great personality: He is wonderful with children. He loves to cuddle and play. He is calm when you want him to and playful when you want him too. He knows a lot of tricks and is very smart. Shake, roll, dance, etc...
He loves other animals, including cats and tries to play with them and cuddle. My Cats think he his weird and nuts but they learned to adore him and will play with him. He is very good also with chickens and would herd them back in their coop when we had them. He will warn you when someone is at the door but he is not aggressive.
